Creator | Executive Director | Editor-in-Chief

Age: 17

Location: San Ramon, CA to Providence, RI

School: Brown University and the Rhode Island School of Design (Brown|RISD Dual Degree Program)

Hello! I'm Enya, a passionate artist, designer, and environmental activist from the Tri-Valley, California. I love exploring societal phenomena and environmental reform, analyzing surroundings that make up my daily life, and making oatmeal banana cookies.

I started Macrolenz to create a digital space and community where people can share their opinions and experiences and see how our different interpretations overlap and communicate. My main hope is for our zines to allow people to always be in conversation with each other, whether it be through the concepts they are exploring or through the discussions that the submissions initiate. Altogether, this forms a matrix of perspectives where interpretations are layered and perspectives are shared; hence, our motto, “the world enlarged — your lens through our lens through your lens.” Meta.

Aside from Macrolenz, I run a shop called Apple&Olive that is dedicated to combatting fast fashion with personalized, refashioned secondhand clothing; volunteer at Sunrise Senior Living where I teach arts and crafts classes to senior citizens in my local community; attend beach cleanups in San Francisco with the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy; and offer branding/identity and graphic design services to clients.

Hi! I’m Deelia, an artist and designer from the Silicon Valley.

Today, we live in a world where accessing information has become as easy as ever. Along with this convenience, many of us, including myself, are guilty of consuming instant information— whether that be catchy headlines or short, viral videos— without little thought. This has led me to ask myself these questions: How should we go about deciphering things today, where we are swimming in misinformation? How should we challenge our first impressions? When does distillation become a form of deception? With these inquiries in mind, I worked with Enya to create Macrolenz in hopes of promoting critical thinking in the digital age through what we do best — art and design.

Outside of Macrolenz, I have taught weekly classes to kids at my local art studio. In addition, I have worked with 360ED (a non-profit funded by Google) in designing, teaching, and filming virtual reality lessons in Myanmar with the goal of modernizing education with VR and a STEAM based curriculum.

Hello! My name is Jane, but you can call me Janie. I am an artist, designer, and aspiring architect with a passion for social justice. As someone who believes that good decision-making starts with analyzing problems from many contexts while recognizing how they intersect, I joined Macrolenz to help initiate that dialogue.  In my free time, I love reading, going on nature hikes, and eating almond butter oatmeal.

Hi! I’m Shruthi, and I am an avid bookworm, true crime enthusiast, and amateur baker! I joined Macrolenz in the hopes of sharing with people that the hot-button issues that frequent their Instagram feeds are just the tip of the iceberg, and that so many forgotten social issues lie beneath the surface. I’ve always loved to talk about all things politics and in the past year, what was once a casual interest has turned into a passion that I want to get as many people involved in as I can. My specific interests lie in global affairs, trade policy, and interstate conflict and I’m always up to chat about any of the above. When I’m not bingeing Agatha Christie and sappy rom coms, or watching cold case documentaries, you can find me trying out elaborate recipes with a slowly improving success rate or teaching creative writing to younger students. I also love to doodle and paint and I’ve been spending the past few months especially diving into DIY projects and new art forms.

Ethan Epstein

Artist | Designer

Age: 17

Location: Edison, NJ to Providence, RI

School: Brown University

Hey! I’m Ethan, an artist and designer from Edison, NJ. I am interested in exploring the intersection between art and science, and also seeing how art can catalyze social change. I joined Macrolenz in an effort to help initiate that change while collaborating with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives.  By working with the Macrolenz team, I am able to both heighten my social awareness and shed light on pressing issues that go unnoticed by the general public.Aside from my artistic interests, I love exploring the outdoors, compiling Spotify playlists, and improving my foreign language skills through K-dramas and telenovelas on Netflix. I also spend my time painting pieces about current environmental issues and advocating for the arts in my local community.

Hi! I'm Lindsay, an aspiring writer and educator. As a POC woman, I'm passionate about elevating marginalized voices through the written word. I have an international background having lived in four countries, so I've always loved highlighting untold stories from around the world. This is the particular reason why I joined Macrolenz. I want to explore unexplored topics through writing and blogging for Macrolenz and broaden my horizons. In the 21st century, it’s incredibly important for Gen Z to be educated on social issues so that we can make a difference. In addition to writing about social issues, I also love writing about culture and entertainment. When I'm not thinking about the next stories to write about, I enjoy fangirling about kpop and watching K-drama and anime.

Age: 17

Location: Columbus, IN to Buffalo, NY

School: University at Buffalo

Hi!! I'm Astha and I like screenplays, skateboarding and (s)alliteration. You can usually find me looking for underlying metaphors in some of my favorite films, writing about childhood nostalgia or unraveling various political intricacies with my father. I'm a curious listener and if while reading one of my pieces you find a story eerily familiar... then it's probably inspired by you. I love helping around the community and am constantly looking for ways to make a difference one articulate essay at a time.

Crystal Chen

Content Creator

Age: 17

Location: Dublin, CA

School: the Athenian School

Hi there! I'm Crystal (she/her), a human rights and environmental activist, as well as wannabe-philosopher from Dublin, California. I joined the Macrolenz team to help bring perspectives together in a highly exposed yet open-minded forum, amidst the often unforgiving environments of social media––I hope our work will further a budding learning-friendly culture. As a content creator in particular, I'm striving to find unheard voices and to amplify their stories in a transparent, succinct way. I also work in hopes of inspiring our viewers to see beyond and expand their normal spheres of obligation. In my free time, I enjoy creating art and fiction, attempting to play the ukulele, and visiting farmers' market flower stands.

Hi! I’m Anoushka, an avid high school sophomore who loves helping out in the community and raising awareness about global issues. I recently joined the Macrolenz team because I see it as an opportunity to positively influence people from all over the world, especially our future generation. Although I am eager to further develop my interest in globally overlooked issues, I hope to help make Macrolenz a useful digital platform that can provide important information to anyone interested in building their knowledge. In addition, to being a part of the Macrolenz team, I am an active member of school clubs, student-run nonprofit organizations (Connect&Compute, Elevate and Educate SF, etc.), and enjoy volunteering around the Bay Area. In my free time, I enjoy dancing, photography/video editing, and advancing my skills to hopefully become a successful businesswoman someday.
